Chesterfield, Wildwood, and Saint Albans are adjacent communities located along the Missouri River to the west of Saint Louis. Chesterfield is the most populous city in west Saint Louis County. It offers a mix of quiet residential neighborhoods and bustling shopping areas and is just 25 minutes away from downtown Saint Louis via I-64. Wildwood borders Chesterfield at Saint Louis County’s western edge and sprawls across 66 square miles with many scenic outdoor recreation areas. The smaller community of Saint Albans sits atop high bluffs above the Missouri River at the northeastern edge of Franklin County. This upscale enclave boasts sweeping valley and river views plus private amenities, including a country club with two golf courses.

Real estate and housing options within these three communities can range from single-family homes in comfortable suburban neighborhoods to grand estates on expansive lots.

These affluent communities offer a tranquil lifestyle in an area surrounded by beautiful open spaces. Chesterfield is home to many sports stars from the NFL, NHL, and Major League Baseball. The city also hosts the headquarters of numerous national and multinational companies. Wildwood’s large land area gives it a quiet and spacious feel with a low population density. A few miles to Wildwood’s west, Saint Albans is a peaceful community with captivating scenery.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Chesterfield offers multiple shopping centers with a variety of restaurants and retailers. The Chesterfield Commons strip mall features brands such as Cost Plus World Market, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Old Navy, Ross Dress for Less, Sam’s Club, Target, and a Walmart Supercenter. There’s also a Marcus Chesterfield Cinema screening all the latest releases. The nearby craft beer pubs Bar Louie, Rock & Brews St. Louis, and Brick House Tap + Tavern each pair a large selection of beers and cocktails with gourmet burgers and other classic American bar eats. Other eateries clustered close to Chesterfield Commons include Oishi for authentic Japanese sushi and grilled hibachi eats. Across the highway from Chesterfield Commons, St. Louis Premium Outlets offers steep discounts on brands including Adidas, Ann Taylor, Calvin Klein, Coach, Disney, Express, Francesca’s, GAP, Hugo Boss, H&M, J. Crew, Kate Spade New York, Loft, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Nike, and Polo Ralph Lauren.

In Wildwood, Big Chief Roadhouse is a landmark roadside restaurant that first opened on the historic Route 66 in 1928. This longtime local favorite serves a menu of stone-baked pizzas, specialty burgers, and sandwiches, and traditional American country eats alongside a wide choice of beers, wines, and cocktails. Wildwood Pub & Grill offers a mix of American and Mexican fare, as well as happy hour drinks in a fun setting with golf simulators and regular live music. Benedetto’s On Main is a popular Italian restaurant in Wildwood pairing pasta, pizzas, steaks, and seafood with fine wines and hand-crafted cocktails.

Saint Albans’ Old Barn Inn offers intimate indoor and outdoor dining in a barn originally built in 1840 and converted into a restaurant in 1928. The adjacent Head’s Store has been a cornerstone of the Saint Albans community since it first opened in 1892. Head’s Store serves hearty breakfast plates, market salads, and hot and cold sandwiches daily. There are also special chef-crafted meals served Wednesday through Saturday. During the summer, Head’s Store hosts porch parties with live music on Friday evenings.

Things to Do

Each of these three communities provides plenty of scenic outdoor recreation space. Faust Park in Chesterfield features a historic village with preserved 19th Century homes, an original 1920s carousel, a playground, walking trails, and a butterfly house with over 1,000 species of butterflies. Chesterfield Amphitheater hosts an eclectic lineup of outdoor concerts and movie screenings. The 176-acre Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex has dozens of multi-sport fields and baseball diamonds. During the summer, residents flock to Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center for facilities, including an outdoor pool, water slides, and a lazy river.

Wildwood’s Al Foster Memorial Trail follows the path of the Meramec River for five miles between the beautiful natural spaces of Sherman Beach Park and Castlewood State Park. Popular activities in Castlewood State Park include fishing and mountain biking. There are also 13 miles of trails to traverse in the diverse scenery of caves, creeks, and ravines at Wildwood’s Rockwoods Reservation. Many more trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding run through 2,441-acre Babler State Park.

The Country Club of Saint Albans boasts two exceptional 18-hole golf courses ranked among the top ten finest in Missouri. Country club members also enjoy access to clubhouse fine dining, four professional tennis courts, and an aquatics center with a junior Olympic swimming pool.
